Subject: Another Great Besse Film
Watch for the bicycle special effects clip!! It alone is worth the download. As are all his films.

Subject: Part 9 of Ivan Besse's late 1930's film of Britton,South Dakota
Watching this film makes me almost feel I am getting to know the people of Britton during the late 1930's. It is interesting watching them doing their routines on the main street, and seeing the various events they went to. It looks like they enjoyed their life. This silent film certainly captures a bygone American way of life.
I wish there could have been some sound narration, but at that time it would have been very expensive to make.

Subject: Corn Husking Contest! Today, at 12:30!
Another day in the life of the Brittonians, as they go on with their daily lives, even though Ivan is thrusting a camera into their faces, along with that, we see, I THINK, a corn husking competition, though what was shown leads me to believe elsewise, people going to the movies. What was amazing about this scene, is that it LOOKED like they were going to a matinee, but they were all dressed to the 9's. Also, we see some kind of dinner for the well-behaved high school students (maybe some kind of prom thing?). Pretty interesting set!

Subject: Some nice indoor photography
I never find the Ivan Besse footage boring. This reel is no exception. First there's a gathering of middle-aged woman patrons outside the Strand, then a long scene out in a corn field, then a community dinner of sorts, with rare (and quite good) indoor photography.

If anybody has any idea about what the party thing is all about, let me know. Looks almost like a school or church event, held inside, at night. Here's my e-mail:
